Most of the GREEN range is configured from standard families. Where none of them fits – an unusual bay geometry, a mixed fleet, a spur that has to be served from one side, an existing structure the access has to work around – the system is engineered for the site instead. S&S Technical quotes and supplies those builds the same way we quote a catalogue unit.

Custom-engineered GREEN access platform with dual gangways serving a tank trailer

When a custom system is the right answer

  • The vehicles vary too much for one standard unit. Deck heights, hatch positions or trailer lengths that a fixed platform cannot cover across the whole fleet.
  • The bay has constraints the catalogue does not anticipate. Canopies, overhead pipe, tight clearances, an existing rack that has to stay in place.
  • Access is needed from more than one position. Multiple hatches, both sides of the vehicle, or truck and railcar served from the same structure.
  • The structure carries more than access. Loading arms, hose handlers, metering or an operator shelter mounted on the same steel.

What is configurable

  • Lengths from 5 ft to 40 ft, engineered to the bay rather than selected from a list
  • Counter-balanced safety enclosure surrounding the operator at the hatch
  • Access by gangway, full-length flat ramp or stairs, with cages to match
  • Optional power package where manual positioning is not practical
  • Hot-dipped galvanised, grey enamel or safety yellow, and custom finishes
  • Designed against the governing OSHA standards for the specific application

What decides the specification

  • Vehicle types served and the range of deck heights across the fleet
  • Number and position of the access points, and whether both sides are needed
  • Bay dimensions and any overhead or lateral clearance limits
  • Photographs or a site drawing, including anything already installed
  • Whether loading arms, hoses or metering mount on the same structure
  • Finish required, and any site standard the steel has to meet

Common questions

Is a custom system much slower to get than a standard one?

It adds an engineering step at the front. The build itself is comparable. Sending dimensions and photographs with the first enquiry is what shortens it most.

Can a custom system work with equipment we already have?

Usually yes. Tell us what is installed – rack, platform, gangway or lifeline – and the new structure is designed around it rather than replacing it.

Do we still get standard GREEN components?

Yes. Custom systems are assembled from the same gangways, cages, ramps and lifelines as the catalogue units, which is what keeps spares and servicing straightforward.
