For facilities still deciding whether a full permanent loading rack is justified, the Insta-Rack gives permanent, protected access at a single hatch position from one pedestal platform with its own access stairway: a cost-effective, single-hatch alternative to a full rack.
S&S Technical supplies GREEN Insta-Rack pedestal platforms for single-dome tank and bulk trucks, tank cars and hopper cars. Each unit is a single pedestal platform with an access stairway and the access equipment to reach the hatch. Where one hatch is worked and the vehicle spots consistently, this is a cost-effective alternative to a full loading rack.
Why order your Insta-Rack through S&S Technical
An Insta-Rack is often the first permanent loading position at a site. GREEN offers a four-column version with integrated loading arm support, and S&S Technical designs and builds the loading side, from skid-mounted loading systems to metering and controls, so the pedestal, its gangway and the loading arm are planned together. If the site later grows to a full loading rack, the same team that specified the pedestal can design the rack.
Which configuration fits?
- Single-sided access. The standard arrangement: one pedestal, one stairway, one gangway to the hatch.
- Double-sided access. One pedestal serving two positions, where vehicles present on either side.
- Four-column support. A heavier support design available with integrated loading arm support, where the pedestal carries more than the operator.
- Relocatable. If a permanent foundation is not practical, the Removable Insta-Rack gives the same single-hatch access without requiring a foundation.
Mounting and access options
- Static, pivot or slide-track gangway mounting
- Self-levelling stair gangways
- Flat ramp or telescopic gangways
- Safety cages at the hatch
- Provision to carry ancillary process equipment where the position needs more than access
- Hot-dipped galvanised, red oxide primer, grey enamel or safety yellow, with custom finishes available
What decides the specification
- Vehicle type and the height of the hatch above grade
- Whether one or both sides need access
- How consistently the vehicle spots
- Whether a foundation is practical at that position
- Whether loading arms mount to the pedestal
- Safety cage requirement at the hatch
Common questions
What is a pedestal platform?
A single free-standing column carrying a small work platform and an access stairway, with a gangway reaching from the platform to the vehicle hatch.
When is a pedestal not the right answer?
When several hatches are worked along the vehicle, or when trailer positions vary widely. A full loading platform covers more of the vehicle.
Can it be moved later?
A standard Insta-Rack is foundation-mounted. If relocation is a real possibility, specify the Removable Insta-Rack instead, which is built for it.
